Commissioners Briones and Garcia Ask for County Residents’ Budget Priorities

      by David CherryJuly 7, 2026

Nearly everyone has a time of year they look forward to with giddy anticipation. For some folks, it's football or beach season; for others, it's the winter holidays or those few weeks in spring when the bluebonnets and firewheel bloom beside Texas highways.

One time of year that no one eagerly awaits is the Harris County budget season, but while it may not generate the enthusiasm of Astros spring training or pumpkin spice season, the county budget has a more direct impact on the everyday lives of Harris County residents.  The county budget sets funding levels for everything from parks and public health to roads, flood control, and, yes, your library.

Harris County Commissioners Court Meeting on June 25, 2026

As Harris County begins planning for Fiscal Year 2027, county leaders are facing a $130 million budget shortfall. It is safe to say that difficult choices that could affect services provided by county departments lie ahead.

That is why Harris County Commissioners Adrian Garcia and Lesley Briones are asking Harris County residents and business owners to share their budget priorities by completing a brief survey. If you value county services, now is the time to let your elected officials know.

Fill out the Budget Priorities Survey

You can make your voice heard in several ways:

      • Complete the county's budget priorities survey.
      • Attend upcoming budget town hall meetings.
      • Email your county commissioner.
      • Speak during the public comment portion of Commissioners Court meetings.

Every budget reflects community priorities. By participating in the process, you can help ensure county leaders understand which services matter most to you and your family.
