Pick up a copy of the Resource Guide at any HCPL location while supplies last!
Do you ever find yourself in need of a phone book or guidebook when looking for services in the area? While the yellow and white pages are still around, they are noticeably smaller. That’s where Harris County Public Library comes in!
Harris County Public Library will soon be releasing a resource guide available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese for pickup at your local library. This guide connects you with groups to meet your health, civics, legal, and social services needs within Harris County and the greater Houston area. Staff from all over the library system helped put together information that would meet the needs of the community.
In addition to the guide, we’ve developed a video series highlighting some of the Houston-area organizations and resources featured in the guide. Some of our featured organizations include:
Harris County Public Health
Harris County Public Health offers a variety of health related programs and services to residents of Harris County. They join us virtually to talk about their organization and all the ways they can help you.
Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library
The Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library offers legal resources and information to the public and legal professionals. This online session gives you an overview of the Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library as well as in-person and online resources and programs.
Legal Tech for Everyone!
This program provides an overview of freely available legal apps as well as tools for accessing online sources of forms and other legal information. The course will explore legal research technology that is available for free at the Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library in addition to free legal research resources online, including government websites, the Texas Legislative Reference Library, and the Texas State Law Library.
Legal GPS
Legal GPS is an interactive source that helps create a legal roadmap for business owners. Legal GPS is available through our very own library of databases.
Coalition for the Homeless
Coalition for the Homeless is a homeless response system that serves Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties. This virtual program explains resources and services that Coalition for the Homeless offer.
Memorial Assistance Ministries
Memorial Assistance Ministries works to help build communities that are strong and vibrant. Our online session with MAM gives you a brief overview of what programs and services they have to offer.
The resource guide will be available for pickup at your local library in the fall. For more information about this guide, contact your local library.
This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
