We at Harris County Public Library want to take a moment to remember Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, whose passing was announced Friday evening. Her record of public service as a municipal judge, member of the Houston City Council, and U.S. Representative for the 18th District spanned decades. In her passing, both sides of the aisle voiced their respect for her fierce and steadfast commitment to social justice and the people she represented.
The Congresswoman was a long time and ardent supporter of public libraries in general and HCPL in particular. Earlier this year, she nominated Harris County Public Library for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, which the library was awarded in May. We at HCPL are grateful to the Congresswoman and offer her family and loved ones our sincere condolences.
