Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, died on April 21, 2025. He was the head of the Roman Catholic Church from March 2013 until his death early on Monday. Francis was the first of history's 266 Popes born in the Americas.
