Gift and Donation Policy

Book Donations

Due to the size of the county and the volume of donations, Harris County Public Library is unable to accept donations of books and other materials from the public for our collection. We encourage any patrons looking to donate new or gently-used books or materials to contact their local Friends of the Library group. The sale of donated books is one of the primary sources of fundraising, and proceeds from these sales directly support programming and help to purchase new materials for branches.

Branch Friends of the Library contact information.

Memorial Donations

Community groups or individuals interested in donating a book in honor or memory of someone, please contact your local branch to determine what might best fit the local collection and respect the memory of your honoree.

Funding Support

Patrons interested in providing a monetary donation can donate in one of two ways:

Donate directly to your local Friends of the Library group and provide support on the branch level. Branch Friends of the Library contact information.

Donate to the Harris County Friends of the Library here and provide support on a system-wide level.
