La Porte Branch Library Cuts Ribbon on Newly Renovated Multipurpose Room

Library hosts community leaders and public for Hartman Reading Room Reopening Ceremony

[La Porte, TX. November 7, 2023] – On Tuesday, La Porte Branch Library welcomed community leaders and the public to the newly renovated Multipurpose Community Room. As a reading center, the room served the community well for over 20 years.

In partnership with BACODA Southeast Harris County Community Coalition’s Happiness Project, the reading center was redesigned, with the goal of building community resilience, enhancing behavioral health, and reducing stress. The updated design will better serve the needs of our growing community, and it will allow the room to be utilized to its full potential. The redesigned space will provide a much-needed third conference room for small community groups to hold meetings, and it will also enable the expansion of ESL, Citizenship, and Adult Basic Literacy classes.

“This would not have been possible without the City of La Porte approving the project and the partnership of BACODA Southeast Harris County Community Coalition. This renovated space will make such a huge impact on our community”, said La Porte Branch Library's  Manager, Rhiannon Perry. She concluded by thanking BACODA for their “continual support and collaboration with the La Porte Branch Library“.
