American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in Brooklyn, NY March 7th-9th

The 37th annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament is being held at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriot Hotel, Brooklyn New York March 7th through March 9th.  The tournament has 700 solvers from both the United States and Canada.  They have 8 puzzles to complete and points are given for speed and accuracy.   The final puzzle is played on giant white boards so everyone can watch.  During the weekend, group word games are played, guest speakers, as well as celebrity crossword solvers.  For more information go to:  www.crosswordtournament.com.

Birth Anniversary of Melvil Dewey

Melvil Louis Kosuth Dewey was born on December 10, 1851 in Adams Center, NY.  He was an American librarian invented the Dewey Decimal System.  Melvil was also an advocate of the spelling reform, urged people to use the metric system and was interested in many other education reforms.  He died in Highlands County, FL on December 26, 1931.
