more Native American Heritage month

Well, while I was trying to decide what to blog about this week, Bruce beat me to the topic I finally decided on (see below). Oh well. But that's ok, I'm still gonna blog about it, and so now we have two posts on books about Native Americans (and actually, some prefer to be called American Indians).

Lest some of you think that Indians are just history lessons--umm, there are still Indians in America (just not that many in the Houston area--not like if you were in, say, Oklahoma, for example)

Members Only Booksale Preview

A Members Only Booksale Preview for the Friends of Maud Marks Library takes place Friday, November 13th from 6 till 8 pm.  If you are a Friends Member you can avoid the crowds and shop early for your books, videos, cds, dvds.  This sale includes a large number of children's books as well!

Textbooks, cookbooks, popular fiction, mysteries, romances, sci-fi, history, science, encyclopedias... well, you get the picture!  The regular book sale (open to everyone) will take place on Saturday, November 14th from 9am till 4pm.  This is the last sale till January.

We've all seen the commercials on television; a dollar just doesn't buy you much nowadays.  But, did you know that buying a book at a Friends of the Maud Marks Library Book Sale can provide so much more?  Every month, the Friends of the Maud Marks Library take the money raise through our used book sales and give it to the library to pay for craft programs, storytimes, afterschool teen programs, summer reading programs, cultural events, and so much more.

Reminder for Prospective Volunteers

Our next volunteer orientation at the Maud Marks Branch is tomorrow (November 10) at 7pm. It’s our last volunteer orientation for 2009 and you must attend orientation before you can begin volunteering. If you haven’t turned in your application yet you can turn it in then; remember that if you’re under 18 your parent or guardian needs to sign it too.
