Mystery Book Club sees Red, White and Blue

For our July Mystery Club we will be discussing mysteries with the red, white and blue theme.  This could be better known as the "patriotic theme".  As you know we are not too strict on our interpretation of what you need to read.  This book club is all about getting together, making friends and discussing why we like or do not like a book we have read.  Others in the club give us ideas of the books they liked and maybe we would like to read them also.  So come join us on July 21st at 2 pm.  This way you will be able to help us decide the theme for August.

Cows at the library?

The cows has re-scheduled her visit to the library.  The farmer was not able to present our first program to happen as scheduled so we invited the cows back for another visit.

Come see our favorite cow from SW Dairy on July 20, 2010.  At 11 am we will be looking for Little Boy Blue and our cows in the meadow.  Let us hope everyone is not fast asleep under the haystack.  So come see the cow and learn how we get milk to send to the dairy.  Do you think this is where the chocolate milk comes from?  The farmer will tell us all about it.  This may be as close as you can get to a cow.  Bring your summer reading slips and complete your first steps in the reading program.  See you here at the Baldwin Boettcher Library.

Baldwin Boettcher Receives Literacy Grant

Baldwin Boettcher is thrilled to be one of 70 public libraries in 21 states recently selected by the American Library Association to receive a $5,000 grant as part of "The American Dream Starts @ your library" initiative.  This initiative is funded by Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Grant recipients include libraries in large cities and rural towns throughout Dollar General's market area.  Grant funds will be used by the libraries to build innovative literacy services for adult English language learners living and working in their communities.

S.I.D. Camp is a success.

Baldwin Boettcher had a successful showing at our S.I.D. Camp.  We used our Science to Investigate, Explore and Discover.  Twenty children who were 4 and 5 years old came to the library to help Ms Nancy and Ms Bonnie with our science camp.  We used our sense of smell to help us discover different smells.  Next the wind came to the library so we could determine what the wind means to me.  Finally on the last day of camp we explored our investigation tool, the magnifying glass.  With our magnifying glass we investigated bugs, ears and our hands.  The children discovered that the magnifying glass makes things bigger.
