Art Alcove: Aviary Arias by Charlie Jean Sartwelle

 Charlie was born in Cameron, Texas, and graduated Alfred C. Glassell School of Art in ceramics and sculpture. She exhibited in numerous local and national exhibitions with interdisciplinary performances and installations. In 1984, Charlie Jean Sartwelle and John Runnels founded MotherDogStudios, as a response to the visual arts communities need to provide working studio/exhibition space for local and visiting artists. She was selected as a finalist of the METRO Solutions Public Arts Program in 2007. Charlie Jean lives in Houston.

Calling all Homeschoolers!

Children’s Services has a book club for homeschool students ages 8-12! We read and discuss current Texas Bluebonnet Award nominated books as well as other notable books. Join the fun and meet other interesting homeschoolers your age. A snack is provided.  Meetings are 1st and 3rd Mondays at 3:30PM in the Robin Bush Activity Room, beginning September 21st through May 16th. Call the Children’s Information Desk at 281-376-4610 or come by to talk to any member of the Children’s Services Staff for more information.

Hispanic Heritage @ Your Library

September 15th is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month and runs through mid-October. During this time, we honor the independence of the following Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile with cultural and festive programs.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs!

When it rains we say it rains cats and dogs…but what if it rained pancakes and syrup or spaghetti and meatballs? That’s the forecast!! On Tuesday @ 2 p.m. during Preschool Storytime we are going to read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The movie is coming up in theatres on September 18th so it would be treat to read the original story before watching the movie. Get your children’s imaginations rolling! 

Older children 8 to 12 years will investigate bones during Silly Science Club's Bare Bones! meeting on Tuesday, September 15th at 4:30pm. 

Don't forget Book Buddies meet Monday, September 14th at 4:30pm!  Bring your Book Buddy and have fun talking about books!
