Snakes @ Your Library

Summer is just around the corner and the start of the Summer Reading Program on Friday, June 03.  Here at Fairbanks Branch Library, we have many special programs scheduled for this summer and our first special program is Thursday, June 09, at 11:00AM in the Fairbanks Library meeting room.  This program is all about some of the non-poisonous snakes here in Texas.  You will have the opportunity to learn about these snakes as well as touch and hold them.  If snakes are your thing, then this program is for you!  So, "slither on in" on the 9th!

Summer vacation is almost here!

School is out next week and the summer reading program is about to begin. Don't forget that you can sign up early on May 31 and start logging your books. And keep an eye on our events calendar for upcoming summer programs!

I don't know about you but I LOVE reading books about vacation. Here are some titles for kids, teens, and adults that we have checked in at Fairbanks:

Get Caught Reading Month

Get Caught Reading is a nationwide campaign that reminds people of all ages how much fun it is to read! The campaign was launched in 1999 and is supported by the Association of American Publishers. The official website, www.getcaughtreading.org, offers free posters, newsletters, and videos.

Asian & Asian-American Authors

Snow FlowerAs you may know, May is the month in which we celebrate Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.  A good way to celebrate is to read Asian/Pacific American literature.  Below are some books that a New York City blogger who calls herself the Literanista lists as some of her favorite books by Asian or Asian-American authors.  You can find these and many more through your neighborhood Harris County Public Library.
