Cedarhurst Cemetery Restored

Photo of entrance to Cedarhurst Cemetery by Bruce Compton posted on USGenWeb Project website. The Cedarhurst Cemetery, established in 1901 as the first cemetery in La Porte, was in urgent need of repair and cleaning. On April 6, local service organizations and volunteer groups worked together to clean and repair the cemetery, as reported on the front page of The Bay Area Observer, Volume 4, No. 18, April 25, 2013. The Cedarhurst Cemetery is located “directly behind La Porte’s Wastewater Treatment Plant on South 4th Street and borders Little Cedar Bayou.” The newspaper further notes that the cemetery “is believed to reside on private property.”

More information on Cedarhurst Cemetery, as well as cemeteries across Texas and the rest of the United States can be found online at The USGenWeb Project. This free and informative genealogy website is maintained by numerous volunteers who post genealogical information.

Many thanks to those who volunteer their time and energy to clean and repair cemeteries as well as those who post genealogical information. This is a wonderful way to preserve our history and honor those who have gone before us.

Note: The photo shows the entrance to the Cedarhurst Cemetery and was posted by Bruce Compton in a link on the USGenWeb Project webpage.
