Map
Public library service started in Humble, Texas in 1921 with 114 volumes housed in the High School. The library moved several times over the next forty years. In the early 1960s, a house and lot were donated at First Street and Avenue D. After remodeling, it opened and was renamed the Shelton Memorial Library in memory of Tom Shelton, who had donated the site. On October 9, 1969, the library moved once again, to 111 West Higgins, and was renamed the Octavia Fields Memorial Library in memory of Mrs. Fields, grandmother of former Congressman Jack Fields. The Fields family continues their support of the library, with many of them attending the Grand Opening of the current facility in 2001.
