As a part of the National Library Week celebration, the American Library Association (ALA) publishes its State of America's Libraries Report, which provides a comprehensive snapshot of trends, challenges, and statistics affecting public, school, and academic libraries.
The State of America's Libraries Report is traditionally published as part of National Library Week's Right to Read Day and contains the annual list of the most challenged books of the previous year. ALA defines a challenge as "an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group," and a book ban as "the removal of those materials."
