What is Tournament of Books?
Tournament of Books is a yearly competition for teens across Harris County. Perfect for fans of Name that Book, Battle of the Books, or Book Clubs in general! Chosen by a committee of HCPL literacy staff, each years reading list is comprised of 12 books covering a wide range of genres- all from the newest and best voices in Young Adult literature! From Romantasy, to Horror, to Manga and Coming-of-Age stories, there's sure to be something for everyone in Tournament of Books! Who knows, you might even discover something new while reading with us! Visit your local branch to learn more.
How Does It Work?
- Tournament of Books is a 5-month long book club, running from November to March of the following year.
- Starting in November, teens will team up in groups of 4-5 to divide and conquer the current year's reading list of 12 books.
- Once a month until March, teams will meet with their HCPL staff sponsor to participate in fun Book Parties that test their understanding of the books and prepare them for the final competition —the Championship Game! Hosted in March,
- The Championship Game brings all the teams from across Harris County together to battle it out with a mix of both book trivia and open-ended questions about what the readers took away from the books.
- Winners of the Championship Game will receive a grand prize!
If you’re interested in joining Tournament of Books, visit your local HCPL Library to pick up an application and join the first Book Party!
