The birdhouse is up, and we're ready to go. You may ask, "Where are the holes to get inside it?" This is a Purple Martin birdhouse, and the Martins are just headed to South America around now. With these houses, you plug the holes during the "off season" so that the more aggressive birds don't take up residence.
The Katy Library is one of the oldest in Harris County, started by the Katy Garden Club and housed in private homes in 1921. It later shared space in a grocery and furniture store and then took over the old Katy Fire Department building on 2nd Avenue. When first opened the library only offered 12 hours of service per week. Today, it is open 40 hours a week. The Friends of the Katy Library were organized in 1973 and still play an active role in the library today.
Construction began in 2002 on the current Franz Road location. The grand opening was on Sunday, April 27, 2003. The library reopened for regular business on Monday, April 28, 2003.
