Our tutors are volunteers and may not have the specialized training needed to support all learning or reading disabilities. However, we can connect you with organizations that may better meet your needs. Please call 713-274-6600 for more information.

Once we know what level you need, we will place you with a tutor as soon as possible.

When can I start? 

Demand for reading instruction is high. Some areas of the county may not have enough volunteer tutors to meet the demand. We match students and tutors as quickly as we can.

How long will the classes last? 

That is up to you. We will provide classes until you have reached your goals.

How much will it cost? 

Our literacy instruction is completely free. HCPL even provides all books and materials at no cost to you.
